Our staff members have MDs, MBAs, and MPHs from the top schools, and deep healthcare experience from leading organizations such as McKinsey, Genentech, FHI, HCA, Wellpoint, The Advisory Board Company, APM/CSC Healthcare, Accenture, and the World Health Organization. In addition, we surround our core teams with experts from nontraditional fields of engineering, finance, computer sciences, law, and even the creative arts. Our team's background and experience reach across all sectors of the healthcare industry, including hospital management, health insurance, disease management, public health management, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and management consulting. Ernest Darkoh – Chairman
Dr. Ernest Darkoh is an internationally recognized expert in global health program management, strategic planning, health systems development, and large-scale treatment program implementation. He is widely acclaimed for his bold leadership in helping develop and manage Botswana's National Antiretroviral Treatment Program (Masa), one of the largest public sector HIV/AIDS treatment initiatives in Africa and a program widely regarded as a "proof of concept" model for large scale ARV therapy. As Chairman of BroadReach, Dr. Darkoh provides leadership to the development, implementation, and management of the company's innovative portfolio of Global Health projects. He serves as an advisor to numerous governments across Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean in the development of public and private sector healthcare programs. His expertise and input are frequently sought after by international organizations including the World Bank, WHO, UNICEF, and many multinational Fortune 500 companies. In 2005, Dr. Darkoh was named one of 18 "Global Health Heroes" by TIME Magazine, and was featured in the recent highly acclaimed PBS documentary series Rx for Survival. Dr. Darkoh has been named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Previously, Dr. Darkoh served as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company in New York and South Africa. Dr. Darkoh received his MD from Harvard Medical School, and his MPH from Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his MBA at the Said School of Business at the University of Oxford, England as a Fulbright Scholar. He graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Darkoh currently resides in South Africa. John Sargent – President
Dr. Sargent has extensive experience in developing, implementing and managing large-scale healthcare programs in the US and in developing world emerging markets. As Co-Founder and President of BroadReach, Dr. Sargent assumes responsibility for the company's Global Health business, and for the implementation of BroadReach's innovative financing, delivery, and distribution networks. Dr. Sargent's deep healthcare strategy and operations experience proves valuable in his role implementing BroadReach's innovative HIV/AIDS treatment programs in South Africa, and in supporting health systems strategy and program design consultancies for governments, multi-lateral funding and assistance agencies, and global NGOs around the world. Before co-founding BroadReach, Dr. Sargent served as Senior Director and National Practice Leader at The Advisory Board Company, a Washington, D.C., based healthcare research, consulting firm, and think tank. At the Advisory Board, he helped found and manage a $25M operations consulting practice, and was responsible for the overall leadership, management, and delivery of all operationally focused client engagements. Prior to this, he served as a management consultant within the New York office of APM/CSC Healthcare, a leading US healthcare consulting firm. Dr. Sargent received his MD from Harvard Medical School, and his M.St. in Social and Cultural Anthropology from University of Oxford, England as a Fulbright Scholar. He graduated with his A.B. in Biology from Dartmouth College. Dr. Sargent currently resides in Washington, DC. He is an avid surfer, runner, and lover of music and reading. Hartman – SVP and Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Hartman is a seasoned healthcare operations manager and consultant, with a rare blend of over five years of grass-roots international development experience coupled with a decade of operational and strategic management consulting expertise. As SVP and Chief Operating Officer at BroadReach Healthcare, his focus is on strengthening the company's operations and delivery systems, and ensuring the growth and scalability of the company's businesses. Before joining BroadReach, Mr. Hartman worked as a Vice President in Computer Science Corporation's Global Health Solutions Group, where he co-led the Patient Care Services practice. Mr. Hartman was also a Principal with APM Inc., the nation's largest management consulting firm dedicated to health care, prior to its acquisition by CSC. He assisted many of the nation's premier health systems in reaching ambitious strategic and operational goals, working in areas ranging from strategic planning and financial performance improvement, to clinical guideline development and patient-focused care implementation. In Global Health, Mr. Hartman worked with a consortium of malaria research and development organizations to quantify and analyze global malaria research funding. The landmark study drafted by Mr. Hartman employed current public and private sector data to illustrate the need for additional malaria research financing. The study was highlighted in a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation announcement of $258 million in new grants to support malaria research. Mr. Hartman received his MBA from the Yale School of Management and his BA in Philosophy from Stanford University. His interest in healthcare and international development was sparked when he served as a Peace Corps community development volunteer in Cameroon.
